Why hello.....

Hi there!

Thanks for stopping by. When it comes to putting things on the super information highway that we call the internet, I’m an amateur at best. I’ve also been reluctant to add to the noise and busyness that is both the internet and our lives, which in many ways seem irreparably intwined! In a world where everyone is so eager to smack us in the face with their opinions, I would hate to be another talker who doesn’t listen. Yet here I am. Writing a blog of my written creations: essays, stories, letters. Ironic I know but bear with me.

My favourite author C.S Lewis, once confessed that when he was a child, he read fairy tales in secret, ashamed of his love for them but that when he was appointed a scholar and professor of one of the world’s most prestigious universities, Oxford, he read them proudly and in the open.

What this intellectual giant had realised was that in the midst of the horror of World War 2, when humanity was at its worst, that it was our love of fairy tales that he saw embodied the most advanced and most precious element of our humanity. I found this concept so surprising and yet so familiar and have spent many years dwelling on it, wrestling with it and shaping my life around it.

Finding beauty in the struggle, resolving the contradiction of who we are and who we long to be, addressing the pain of the fissure between the lives we have and the lives we long for is surely something worth sharing to anyone who will listen.

May I just acknowledge the tint of arrogance required to write a blog. It requires the underpinning belief that one has some unique and noble perspective that must be pushed onto others. But may I just absolve myself of a little of that guilt, based on a comment I saw etched onto a toilet door one day. The scratchy, faded font said this: Be to others the person you once needed.

I needed someone to help me reconcile the hopes and dreams of my imagination with the harsh reality of life on earth. I still need that person. So my blog is primarily an attempt to help myself and as happy collateral, hopefully something that may create a spark for someone else.

So I hope this is the first of many visits.

All my love

The Reformist Princess
